Karene is an independent midwife who is grounded in natural birth and believes that most women are able to safely give birth without medical intervention. She therefore supports women who choose to birth at home or in a primary birthing unit.

She provides care that is holistic and gentle, supportive and empowering, and acts in partnership with the woman and her family, sharing decision-making, knowledge and skills.

Already a registered nurse, Karene trained as a midwife in 1989. Since then she has spent time working with women in the community, at primary birthing units and at the Waikato hospital.

Karene lives in Pirongia with her husband and two daughters.
